The Story of Elsie's Melbourne

That is me up there in the green dress. I will get to the dress in just a minute.

 

 

In March 2023, my marriage ended after nearly thirty years. He took the coffee machine. I got the kettle, eleven cardboard boxes, and a tiny flat in Yarraville that echoed when I spoke. Standing in the middle of that empty room, I realised something rather confronting: I had completely chipped myself away to make room for everyone else.

 

Just six months later, in September of that same year, I lost my mum. While clearing out her house, I found a gorgeous silk blouse tucked right at the back of her wardrobe with the tag still firmly attached. She was saving it for a magical 'good day' that never arrived.

 

I drove home, opened my own wardrobe, and stared at a beautiful green dress I bought a decade ago. Still in the plastic. Waiting for an occasion I never quite believed I was worth. Two women, two wardrobes, the exact same ridiculous habit of waiting for permission to live.

 

So I took my green dress out and put it on. I have barely taken it off since.

 

I was entirely done waiting, so I decided to take the wheel. By late 2023, I had opened a small physical boutique, pouring my heart into creating a space for women like us. Women who deserve clothes that do not force a compromise between looking stylish and feeling incredibly comfortable. It was built for women who appreciate effortless elegance and dare to actually live right now.

 

But the reality of retail is harsh. After pouring everything into it for months, skyrocketing rent and daily overheads meant keeping the physical doors open was simply no longer affordable. It completely broke my heart to turn the key and lock that shopfront for the last time.

 

But closing a building didn't mean closing the dream. We packed up our racks and transitioned entirely online. Today, I'm incredibly proud of the digital boutique we've built. Together with my dedicated team behind the scenes, we work every day to bring you the best styles and customer service, keeping the exact same personal touch alive.

 

Everything here is chosen exactly how I would pick it out for my best friend. Clothes that hang properly on a real body, forgiving fabrics that move with you, and beautiful things you can simply wear on a Tuesday because you feel like it.

 

Because here is the truth. You have a dress sitting at the back of your wardrobe too.
